*If you want more fun ideas to help your kids when they are afraid, I am doing a series of LIVE Facebook videos this week featuring cute visuals and catchy Bible verses to memorize!  Go HERE to see them all!*

When I was a little girl I was terrified of the dark. I used to have 13 night lights. And if one went down then I was up in my parent’s room trying to sleep in between them in their bed.

I always wanted my door left open at night. I had 43 stuffed animals to cope. And I did N-O-T not like that our house was 4,000 years old and made all kinds of creaks and groans that kept me awake imagining what was climbing up the stairs to eat me.

Thankfully, I don’t need the nightlights anymore (and my husband wouldn’t let me keep them after we got married hahaha).

But I have found something so much better –

JESUS.

In John 8:12 Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Because we have Jesus, we never have to walk in the darkness or lie awake in it worrying that something is going to turn us into dinner. We have the LIGHT OF LIFE. Inside of us! All the time!

This good news is something we get to give to our children. Being afraid of the dark is a normal part of childhood and most kids will encounter some of these feelings along the way, so here is a fun and simple way you can be prepared and point their hearts to Jesus!

By far the most powerful weapon we have against fear is God’s Word.

One of my favorite verses that I have taught my boys is Psalm 56:3

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you.”

We recite this verse often together before bed, but I wanted to make something that would give them a more permanent reminder of God’s truth to hold on to throughout the night.

Next I traced the letters with the puffy paint and let it dry.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.”

Giving our kids God’s Word when they feel afraid of the dark is like handing them a flashlight to help them see clearly and live courageously.
